My Average Day in College

Writer: Jasmine SmithJasmine Smith

There are so many high school seniors making their decisions on what they are going to do after graduating from high school. I remember those days far too well. It’s crazy that it was 5 years ago.

I’ve said in the past how high school life and college life aren’t the same. It’s really a different world. I’m going to share what my average day in college looked like all 4 1/2 years (in other words 9 semesters).

Freshman Year

Semester #1:

This is what a average Monday looked like my very first semester of college. I had class from 8:00 am to 12:15 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Wake up- 6:00 am

Get dressed/make up bed- 6:05 am to 6:45 am

Leave dorm- 7:00 am

Go eat breakfast- 7:10 am to 7:30 am

Go to class- 7:30 am to 12:15 pm

Grab and eat lunch- 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm

Chill time- 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm

Math Lab Hours- 2:10 pm to 3:00 pm

Study or do other class assignments- 3:15 pm to 4:45 pm

Workout at gym- 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm

Call my family- 5:45 pm to 6:00 pm

Dinner/ hangout with friends- 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Take bath- 8:00 pm

Down time- 8:15 pm

Sleep- between 9:30 pm to 10:00 pm

The first semester of college for me was all about getting adjusted to the college life. It was a struggle because I was so tired all the time, but eventually I got used to it.

Semester #2

This is a typical Monday for my 2nd semester of college. This was one out fo two semesters that was super draining due to the fact of how I had my class schedule. I had 4 classes back to back on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Wake up- 6:00 am

Get dressed/make up bed- 6:05 am to 6:45 am

Leave dorm- 7:00 am

Go eat breakfast- 7:10 am to 7:30 am

Go to class- 7:30 am to 1:45 pm

Grab and eat lunch- 2:00 pm to 2:30

Chill time- 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm

Study or do assignments for other classes- 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Workout at gym- 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm

Call my family- 5:45 pm to 6:00 pm

Dinner/ hangout with friends- 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Take bath- 8:00 pm

Down time- 8:15 pm

Sleep- between 9:30 pm to 10:00 pm

That semester was tough on me because I didn’t know or understand the importance of making sure to have a hour break in between each class.

This semester was the start of a very productive college life that created a huge impact on me. This is typical Tuesday.

Semester #6

This semester was the most hardest semester I ever had. It wasn’t my best semester mentally, physically, and academically. This is what a Monday looked like for me.

Wake up- 6:00 am

Get dressed/make up bed- 6:05 am to 6:45 am

Take a bath- 7:15 pm

Down time- 7:30 pm

Sleep- between 10:00 pm to 10:30 pm

This semester was the “life lesson” semester. I learned about myself and what I needed to do to better myself and finish college the best way I can.

Senior Year

Semester #7

By far the most productive and best semester I ever had. This was how a Wednesday was like for me.

Leave dorm- 8:00 am

Eat breakfast- 8:10 am to 8:30 am

Go to class- 9:30 am to 12:15 pm

This semester was really good for me because I picked myself back up from what I did in the pervious semester. I got a on-campus student job, active member of CAB, and on the homecoming committee for the 2nd year in a row.

Semester #8

This schedule was pre-pandemic. It would’ve been apart of being one of my best semesters, but COVID stopped the world. Here’s a typical Wednesday.

Wake up- 7:00 am

Get dressed/make up bed- 7:05 am to 7:45 am

Leave dorm- 8:00 am

Eat breakfast- 8:10 am to 8:30 am

Study or do assignments- 8:40 am to 9:15 am

Go to class- 9:30 am to 12:15 pm

Talk to family- 8:30 pm

Take a bath- 8:45 pm

Down time- 9:00 pm

Sleep- between 10:30 to 11:00 pm

After volleyball season was over, I was offered to work for Athletic Ticket Office. I was able to work there for several weeks before the pandemic started.

Graduating Semester

Semester #9

The best semester for last. My final semester of school. This was an easy breezy semester. This is a typical Tuesday.

Wake up- 7:00 am

Get dressed/make up bed- 7:05 am to 7:45 am

Get and eat breakfast and respond to text messages and emails- 8:00 am to 9:00 am

Leave dorm- 9:00 am

Go to library to do online class work and student worker work- 9:10 am to 12:00 pm

One-on-One Meeting- 12:30 to 1:00 pm

Student Worker Work- 1:15 pm to 2:00 pm

Grab dinner- 2:15 pm to 3:00 pm

Chill time/call family- 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

E-Board Meeting- 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Class or student worker work- 5:15 pm to 6:00 pm

Workout at gym- 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Take a bath- 7:15 pm

Down time- 7:30 pm

Sleep- between 10:30 to 11:00 pm

This semester was one of the most surprising to me because I made it look so easy balancing a student job where I was in charge of planning events and doing online classes in the middle of a pandemic.

It was a lot, but it was fun and worth it. I had such a busy schedule that I never understood or saw how I was able to get 8-10 hours of sleep every night. I made it look so easy. Pretty much I was known as the student who was also working so much and was involved in almost everything. At the time, I didn’t even realize it. I thought I was just doing what a normal college student would be doing and having fun with it. College years are definitely the best years ever because it’s such an experience that you will never forget.
