2020 Goals

Writer: Jasmine SmithJasmine Smith

The new year/decade has officially arrived!! Happy New Year!!! I know that many people are making out their New Year’s resolutions and not actually do them. Quite frankly, I was like that. Instead of making a list of New Year’s “resolutions” I decided to make New Year’s Goals. There’s a difference. The definition of a resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something. The definition of a goal is the result or achievement toward which effort is directed. With using the word goal makes me even more motivated to achieve. So I decided to make my goals that I want to achieve this year.

Goal #1: Graduate from college

In December of this year I will be graduating from college. I’m so excited. It’s hard for me to believe it. It has taken me 4 1/2 years to get my degree. I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Management. The thought that I’ll be graduating is crazy. It was like I was just a freshman and I’m almost there to becoming a graduate. I’m already in the process of planning everything. I can’t wait for graduation day to arrive to walk across that stage and get my degree.

Goal #2: Career Take-Off

Since I’m this close to graduating, I’m already in the beginning process of looking for a job in my career field. I decided to go for the career in promoting and marketing. I have been learning and studying brands on social media, YouTube, and their commercials. It’s really easy to understand what each brand does to get their customers to want to gain interest in the products. I really have enjoyed experiencing promoting and marketing for the past 3 years in the student organizations I’m apart of. I always help promote and market to get word out to students to come to events. It works every time.

Also, I hope to one day to expand my brand name and this blog as well.

Goal #3: Increase my relationship with Jesus

Sometime I feel like my relationship with Jesus isn’t good. I honestly try to do my best, but I tend to sometimes get afraid that my relationship with Him isn’t good. I read my Bible everyday and do what a Christian is suppose to do. But I know that I should do how I feel. So for Christmas I got a brand new Bible that I love. It’s called a Creative Bible Journal. I can color in it and make notes. I also got “Jesus Calling” a 365 day Devotional book. I honestly can’t wait to bring those with me to my Bible study group on campus. I really want my relationship with Jesus to increase even more this year.

Goal #4: Improve my health

Last year I dealt with a crisis that affected my mental health. I was always constantly worried and stressed out about a lot of things. It had me at my lowest and it became the scariest thing I ever dealt with. I started going to counseling on campus to get some help and it has helped me a lot. I even started trying new things to help me reduce my stress and anxiety that I deal with. I even took on losing weight. I started my weight loss journey June 2019. It was something that I wanted to do but I always kept procrastinating. I started and the weight began to shed off. I’m definitely determined to keep my health on strong.

Goal #5: Travel More

I love to travel and visit new places. For the past two years I’ve been to Houston, Texas and Florence, Mississippi. Houston was a trip I did with my family because we hadn’t been able to go on vacation for about 4 years at that time. Last year I went to Florence, Mississippi through my university. It was a weekend retreat to enhance my leadership skills. It was a fun weekend because I was able to enhance my leadership skills and make new friends. I learned with that trip last year that it’s definitely good to get away. It’s good to take a trip and discover new things. Traveling to new places and making discoveries is something I want to do even more this year.
